    Better than Gold

    Scripture: Acts 3:6-10(NIV)

6 Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. 9 When all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

    Devotional

    By: Wilbur Sutton

As I read Acts 3:6-10 and I understand when the disciples healed the lame man at the temple gate, they had asked him what he wanted from them. He was expecting money, but they told him they had something much better than gold and they healed him. He was able to get up and walk.

My family has been exposed to the same understanding: there are gifts that are much more valuable than gold. With Ellen’s disability what we’ve learned, from her, is that she doesn’t know prejudice, ethnicity, or politics. All she knows is that she loves people for who they are. That’s a lesson for all of us. That agape love is better than any material worth we might have.

We see how she has encouraged other people. How she can help make their lives better and in turn, it helps us understand how we should behave. We see God working through her and God working through us.

The prayer that I would offer is this: Dear Lord, we know that your love is much better than any gold in our lives, any material assets that we might have. We thank you, Lord Jesus, for your love and we thank you for your caring and we ask that you might help us that we might reflect your love and caring to other people. We pray these things in your name, Lord Jesus. Amen
