Core Values

Learn more about what we value

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we might spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the day approaching.”  -Hebrews 10:23-25

The Christian life begins in the weekly communal worship service. It’s through communal worship that our life together begins to take shape. As we collectively join together to worship God, as we pray and sing and hear the Word and partake of communion together, the Holy Spirit moves to renew us individually, and collectively, into the likeness of Jesus, binding our hearts and minds together as one.

“…as for you, continue in what you have learned and become convinced of, because you know those from whom you have learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through the faith in Christ.” -2 Timothy 3:14-15

We believe the study of God’s Word is necessary to experiencing God’s transforming work. It’s through God’s Word that God reveals the depth of his love for us. It’s through God’s Word that our false understandings of the world and ourselves are challenged. It’s through God’s Word that God reveals what is right and good, loving and whole. It’s through God’s Word that we are called into community to love one another and share life together. It’s through God’s Word that we hear God’s call to serve as ambassadors for Jesus in the world. We believe that a deepening relationship with Jesus is nurtured through a deepening relationship with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ who desire to be shaped by God through His transforming Word.

“The body [the church] is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body…there should be no division in the body…its parts should have equal concern for one another.” -1 Corinthians 12:12 & 25

We contribute to the unity of the body through the use of our God-given gifts and talents. Our relationship with Christ always reveals itself in community with brothers and sisters in Christ. As followers of Jesus, we are called to mutually care for one another, and we are called to join together to reveal Christ to the world. The Christian life is a life together.

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:19-20

On the surface, invite others might seem as though you should simply invite others to worship services or activities at Fishers UMC, but to its core it is much more.  We not only believe you should invite others to church, but introduce them to Christ and his magnificent love.
