Week 22: Day Three

    To Know Him Better

    Scripture: Ephesians 1:15-23(NIV)

15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

    Devotional

I love this Scripture – I know God is excited for the spiritual growth of each of us at Fishers United Methodist Church. God sees us growing through the studies and scripture that we are charged to read each weekday in our “Be Connected” series. We cover our scripture readings and devotions with our Sunday sermons that are tied to the same scriptures. Our small group discussions also cover these same Scriptures. I love how God is growing our understanding of His Word. The studies are simple, but they do deepen our understanding of the Scriptures. When we pray for God to bless us with discernment, I see God giving us a better understanding of His Word. When we talk and share together, we learn expanded ideas and possibly different understandings or perceptions.

God is giving us wisdom through study and sharing His Word. God must be pleased that we are taking the time to be in His Word. He must love that we are growing in the wisdom that he passes on to us. He is opening our eyes to see and our ears to hear the wisdom of His Word.

I know that He glories in our hope of His inheritance. I know He is pleased when we understand His power over death. He proved it to us when He brought Christ back from death after three days in the tomb. It’s the same power He holds over death to sin when He welcomes us into His eternal kingdom. It grows my understanding of the true eternity that we can opt to spend with Him. I pray that each of us can accept and welcome the choice to believe in Jesus, the Son of God and the Son of man.

I pray, Heavenly Father, that You guide us in our reading, understanding and discernment when we spend time in Your Word. Guide our seeing and hearing of Your wisdom. Amen
