I Know Whom I have Believed
Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:11-12(NIV)
11 And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. 12 That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.
Devotional
I love the lyrics to that hymn based on this verse. Here is the first verse and refrain:
I know not why God's wondrous grace
To me he hath made known,
Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love
Redeemed me for his own.
But I know whom I have believed,
And am persuaded that he is able
To keep that which I've committed
Unto him against that day.
We may never understand everything there is to know about God and the mystery of His grace and salvation. But we can know Him. Through the highs and lows of life we can rest assured that the Lord is with us and will never forsake us. When the winds and waves of life are rocking our boat, the Bible reminds us, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure” (Hebrews 6:19). Our anchor is none other than Jesus.
The funeral service that I use includes this prayer: “God of us all, your love never ends. When all else fails, you still are God.”
In the beginning, God.
In the end, God.
Along the way, God.
Do you know Him? Would you like to put your faith in Him? If so, pray a prayer right now that goes something like this:
Dear God, I believe in you. I believe that you made me and that you love me beyond what I can comprehend. I know that I have failed you, and I’m sorry for my sins. I believe you sent your Son Jesus to die for my sins so that I can be forgiven by you. I accept Jesus into my life. Come Lord Jesus. Give me your Holy Spirit to live in me, so that I will live my life for you. Help me to get to know you better and better each day. Show me your purposes for me and equip me to carry them out. I trust you for my life now and for all eternity. Amen.
