Where to Get Advice
Scripture: 2 Timothy 2:8-13(NIV)
8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.
11 Here is a trustworthy saying:
If we died with him,
we will also live with him;
12 if we endure,
we will also reign with him.
If we disown him,
he will also disown us;
13 if we are faithless,
he remains faithful,
for he cannot disown himself.

Do you remember a show called “Home Improvement”? Mr. Wilson would walk over to his fence to talk to his neighbor, Tim. You could only see the top half of Mr. Wilson’s face. He was sort of a mystery man. Tim would get advice from him and then try to apply it to the situation going on in his life. Where do you get your advice?
This world is swirling with so many philosophies and theologies. It is important that we, as Christians, stick to the basics of the Bible. What temps you to stray from the Bible? In today’s scripture Paul is advising Timothy to remember the resurrection of Jesus who was risen from the dead. Even though Timothy was young and timid, he knew Paul was giving him God’s wisdom.
Paul’s advice to Timothy was to “Ready yourself”. We live in a fallen world, so we are going to struggle and suffer. We are to count these situations in our life as joy. Just like Paul who was sitting in jail writing these letters. It gave him joy to know that the gospel was being spread. Our struggles and sufferings are often a way to grow our faith. What brings you the most joy? There is nothing that can satisfy like our God, who provides true fulfillment. When your life seems to be giving you lemons, we can find rest in Christ. He gives peace that passes all understanding. So, rest your heart, mind, and soul in Christ.
Be a Timothy and carry the gospel forward. Invite somebody to church, start a Bible study, or be in prayer for what God is preparing you for next.
