    How Great the Father's Love

    Scripture: 1 John 3:1-3(NIV)

1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

    Devotional

    By: Wilbur Sutton

Every May 2nd I add another year to my Christian walk of faith. As I age, in my walk, I understand that I will never quit growing in Christ. There is no time, in our Christian walk, that we “know it all.” When we consider our Father’s great love for us, we know that His love is so vast, we will NEVER comprehend it all in this earthly life.

One of the reasons I love the pastors’ weekly devotions, podcasts, and Scripture readings, is that I am not skilled enough, in my life, to guide myself through daily Scripture studies. We are blessed, at Fishers United Methodist Church, to have both strong pastoral leadership, as well as strong lay ministry volunteers.

In volunteering to contribute a few daily devotionals, I’ve been blessed to hear volunteer devotionals from other members of Fishers UMC, as well as devotionals from pastors.

I challenge every one of you to grow in your faith walk as God guides you. The power of God’s blessings is enormous. It is impossible to outgrow God’s blessings and God’s Word. We were talking, in our Sunday small group (Sunday School) that God’s Living Word is amazing. We can study Scripture and possibly put notes in our Bible. We may come back to that same Scripture next year, or some other time, and be given a completely different lesson. The beautiful advantage of the Living Word is the Bible reaches us where we are, not where we were.

It was amazing to hear so many people, in our Sunday small group, share how the Scriptures have been alive in our hearing of the Word of God.

If you haven’t found any small study groups to belong to, I suggest you open your eyes, ears, and heart to find a place God will challenge you and help you grow in your faith walk.

Our prayer: Dear Father, thank you for providing us with your living Word. We ask, Lord God, that you can direct and guide us to the opportunity that you have for us. Help us that we may grow in our understanding of your living Word. Bless us with your discernment in your wisdom and that we can grow in your love and reflect your great love. Amen.
