Religious Leaders Question the Healed Man

    Scripture: John 9:13-17(NIV)

13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind. 14 Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man’s eyes was a Sabbath. 15 Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.”

16 Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.”

But others asked, “How can a sinner perform such signs?” So they were divided.

17 Then they turned again to the blind man, “What have you to say about him? It was your eyes he opened.”

The man replied, “He is a prophet.”

    Devotional

    Therefore.

Jesus had miraculously healed a man who had been blind all his life. But Jesus did the miracle on the Sabbath.

    Therefore.

Now able to see, the man explained how Jesus healed him using mud from His saliva and water from a pool of water called “Sent.” But Jesus did the miracle on the Sabbath.

    Therefore.

Some people claimed that Jesus must be from God. The healed man called Jesus a prophet. But Jesus did the miracle on the Sabbath.

    Therefore.

Therefore, the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.”

The Gospels clearly reveal Jesus to the world.

The Person of Christ: He is the great “I AM,” the creator God.

The Presence of Christ: He is “Immanuel,” God with us.

The Power of Christ: He is the “Lamb of God,” uniquely able to forgive sins through His death and resurrection.

But Jesus did miracles on the Sabbath, something a God-fearing Jew would never do. Jesus was the son of a carpenter from Nazareth, hardly God in the flesh. And Jesus died a criminal’s death on a Roman cross, not exactly the victorious life and death of a messianic figure.

    Therefore.

Therefore, who do you say Jesus is?
