    Jesus Heals the Blind

    Scripture: Matthew 20:29-34(NIV)

29 As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. 30 Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”

31 The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”

32 Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.

33 “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.”

34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.

    Devotional

    By: Mark Ellcessor

“What do you want me to do for you?”

This simple question by Jesus has profound implications.

    “I want to see.”
Then you will no longer be able to beg for a living.

    “I want to find love.”
You will be expected to be pure in your pursuit of passion.

    “I want more money.”
Can you steward it as the Lord directs?

    “I want a purpose.”
Will you go wherever God sends and do whatever God commands?

    “I want independence.”
    That comes with responsibility.

    “I want children.”
    So much for independence.

    “I want retirement.”
Will you use your newfound time for Jesus, or just yourself?

    “I want better friends.”
    Be a better friend.

Jesus is asking the question, “What do you want me to do for you?”

    How will you answer?

    Poem

    Kyrie Eleison
    Psalm 57

Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. I cry out to God Most High, to God, who vindicates me. He sends from heaven and saves me, rebuking those who hotly pursue me— God sends forth his love and his faithfulness. Psalm 57: 1-3

    Kyrie eleison
    LORD have mercy upon me

    Behold my sin
    Its parasitic cling
    Behold my transgressions
    Their biting, their sting

    Kyrie eleison
    LORD have mercy upon me

    Behold my trouble
    The croucher at my door
    Behold my devourer
    Save me, I implore

    Kyrie eleison
    LORD have mercy upon me

    Behold my entrapment
    The snare at my feet
    Behold my darkness
    Give light, I entreat

    Kyrie eleison
    LORD have mercy upon me

    Behold my blindness
    My stumbling along
    Behold my mockers
    Help me to stay strong

    Kyrie eleison
    LORD have mercy upon me

    Behold my longing
    To sing forth your praise
    Untie my tongue
That my voice I may raise

    Kyrie eleison
    LORD have mercy upon me
