    Blessing Those Who Instruct You

    Scripture: Galatians 6:6(NIV)

6 Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.

In Biblical times, the tithes went to the Temple. In the Old Testament, the tithe was given to the Levite tribe, which was made up of the priests. The Levites were not given an inheritance and therefore they were completely dependent on the offerings of others. Part of the tithe to the Temple was also given to the poor.

In Galatians, Paul is providing information on how Christians should live together and be more Christ like. In this verse, Paul teaches that this practice of taking care of the pastors should be continued in the New Testament. Pastors are given the spiritual gift of pastoring / teaching. This is a full-time job just as the Levite priests.

I have been blessed with several amazing pastors here at Fishers United Methodist Church. They have each taught me exactly what I needed to hear when I needed to hear it. Sometimes I am convinced that each came to this church for me only and others just got the added benefits. The daily devotionals and Bible study that our current pastors have created have taught me so much about the Bible and how passages connect with each other and our present day lives.

Part of receiving the instructions and wisdom from our pastors includes sharing all good things with them. All good things can be many things. This includes our joys and our daily prayers.

A few month ago, the church’s prayer team formed a P.I.T. Crew (Pastor’s Intercessory Team). This is a group who has committed to praying daily for our pastors. It is not an easy task to lead a church and to be there for all the parishioners. Please take a moment in your prayers to pray for our Pastors.

    Poem

    Pour Out And Sharing
    Psalm 140

Surely the righteous will praise your name, and the upright will live in your presence.
    Psalm 140:13

    Like a volcanic eruption
    I pour out and share
    All the struggles, anxieties
    Every care
    My concern for another
    My concern for my soul
    It cannot stop flowing
    Prayers out of control
    Great Teacher, I need You
    To train great constraint
    To stop deep eruptions
    To quell vain complaints

Like a spring in the mountain
    I pour out and share
    The victories, the lessons
    Received through Your care
    The love for a foe
    The restraint of a tongue
    The stilling of soul
    All the vict’ries I’ve won
    Great Teacher, without You
    I’d not hold the prize
    Turn the glory from me
    To the podium, Your rise!
