Joshua and the Walls of Jericho
Scripture: Hebrews 11:30(NIV)
30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the army had marched around them for seven days.
Devotional
When I read Hebrews 11:30 and Joshua 6:15-21, I understand the Hebrews trusted God to provide the city of Jericho to them. They marched around the city seven times for seven days. The Lord promised them the city after these marches. After marching, after sounding the trumpets and after shouting, the walls of the city fell and they conquered the city.
I don’t have a city to conquer, but I do know the Lord has plans for me, and for you. We are put on this earth for a purpose. The challenge for me, when I understand a reason God put me here, is do I pray about it and do I really trust God to provide a solution?
I am an advocate for homelessness and for housing for all families. I am an advocate for both the intellectually and developmentally disabled. When I go to the legislature to advocate for the laws to change to support those needs am I truly trusting in God to provide the solution? When I share solutions or ideas for solutions with others, am I trusting God to make it happen? Do I trust God to provide what he’s promised when he charged me with these tasks?
Dear Father in Heaven, I don’t have any city walls to tear down, but I do have prejudice, unfairness, inequality and hate to overcome. Please guide those of us that you have chosen to trust in your power to conquer these issues. Guide us and give us your discernment to listen to the Holy Spirit and allow the Holy Spirit to speak through each of us. Amen.

Some And Yet
Psalm 52
Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?
Psalm 52:1
Some look into the mirror, delighting in their frame
Some point to their diplomas, position’s right to claim
Some boast in their great prowess, competing in life’s game
Some brag in their acquaintances, a chance to drop a name
Some glory in their riches, a-counting all their stacks
Some build great walls around themselves, sure none will e’er attack
Some pour themselves in sporting, to gain their ribboned plaques
Some spend their lives a-sculpting their physique to make impact
Yet let me be a little one, a tree within a grove
Yet let me be a wanderer, a-walking toward my home
Yet let me be a trusting one, a marcher ‘round fierce walls
Yet let me be a child of God, responding to God’s call
Yet let me be a boasting one, who’s bragging is in God
Yet let me be obedient, who knows the Shepherd’s rod
Yet let me be a hoping one, not seeking fortune, fame
Yet let me be a waiting one, my confidence, God’s name
