The Earthly Tabernacle
Scripture: Hebrews 9:1-5(NIV)
1 Now the first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary. 2 A tabernacle was set up. In its first room were the lampstand and the table with its consecrated bread; this was called the Holy Place. 3 Behind the second curtain was a room called the Most Holy Place, 4 which had the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered ark of the covenant. This ark contained the gold jar of manna, Aaron’s staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant. 5 Above the ark were the cherubim of the Glory, overshadowing the atonement cover. But we cannot discuss these things in detail now.
Devotional
When I read Hebrews 9:1-5 and Exodus 26:30 they both were telling the Hebrews to set up a tabernacle according to God’s plan. The tabernacle was to have blue, purple & scarlet yarn and cherubim woven into to the linen by a skilled worker. I’m thinking “what does that have to do with me?”
I think God is telling us that we are His Tabernacle. God doesn’t make mistakes. He made us to be able to choose to do his will. Every little thing about us is perfect in His eyes. Our language, our thought processes, our wisdom, everything about us, can be used to reach other potential followers of God. We can become his disciples. We can be the tools that Jesus uses to reach the lost, the undecided, the misdirected. We can be part of God’s tabernacle as we already know Jesus lives within us, God lives within us and the Holy Spirit lives within us. We are that tabernacle that is perfect for God to use to reach others.
There have been times in my life where words that came from my mouth were not any words I would normally share. They made a difference, at that time, in the conversation I was having with another. Afterwards I thought to myself, “where did that come from?” and I can only recognize that was the Holy Spirit talking through me.
Dear God, my Savior and my Salvation, please use me to reach others. I recognize that I’m far from being perfect, but I recognize that my life experiences can reach others who may be experiencing similar challenges. Lord, help me to allow you to speak to them through me. Amen
